Star gazing in Cornwall – places to enjoy the night

Under a pitch-black starry sky on Bodmin Moor, sitting by an ancient neolithic monument, you can look up at the very same sky that 2000 years ago, or more, our ancestors were looking at. Designated a Dark Sky Park in 2017, Bodmin Moor is an ideal spot for observing the night sky. And it’s only 30 minutes’ drive from North Beer Lodge.

Winter time is best to see the Milky Way and countless other stars and, if the time is right, you may see meteor showers, comets and the Northern Lights.

Colliford Lake

Colliford Lake Park is a nature reserve located in the very heart of Bodmin Moor with ample parking. With wide expansive skies and no light pollution, it’s an ideal spot.

Siblyback Lake

Watch out for stargazing events organised by the South West Lakes Trust and the Caradon Observatory.

Minions Heritage Centre car park

Car Park for the Heritage Centre and for access to the Hurlers Stone Circles and the impressive Cheesewring natural rock formations a mile or so to the North – fantastic views all round Bodmin with wonderful dark skies above.

Bodmin Moor is a place of magic and mystery with its neolithic monuments, its tales of beasts, giants and saints. And now acknowledged  by the International Dark Sky Association as one of the best places in the whole of the UK for star gazing, we should all be star struck!
